Actor - Comedian Thavasi, who has been getting treatment for cancer at a private hospital in Madurai has passed away.

Thavasi, who is popularly known for his roles in 'Azhagarsamyin Kuthirai' and 'Varuthapadaadha Vaalibar Sangam' has acted in more than 140 films in supporting character. He was diagnosed with cancer and the news about his health condition has taken social media by storm.

A video of him requesting financial aid from people went viral on social media. Soon, many people and even celebrities from the industry came forward to financially help Thavasi.

A number of Kollywood actors including Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, Sivakarthikeyan, Soundararaja, Silambarasan TR, Robo Shankar had extended financial support to the actor when he was struggling to meet the expenses for his treatment.

The latest is that the actor has passed away while receiving treatment for cancer. Director Saravana Sakthi had brought the plight of Thavasi to Dr Saravanan, whose hospital Thavasi was receiving treatment.

Actor Thavasi became famous with his single verse, ‘Karuppan Kusumbukkaran.’ His role as Suri’s father in the film ‘Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam’ was appreciated and admired by many.

He started his cinematic journey from Bharathiraja’s film ‘Kizhakku Seemaiyile.’ Film industry and audiences are shocked by the news despite many tried to help him on receiving his treatment.
