Vijay's official statement on 'Vijay Makkal Iyakkam' political party

Speculations abuzz on Vijay's political entry as Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been registered as party name at Indian election commission
'Thalapathy' Vijay's father and veteran director SA Chandrasekhar hinted few days back about Vijay taking a political plunge.

Earlier today news spread like fire that Vijay has applied to the Election Commission and is soon to register the party. Reports claimed that Vijay's fan club 'Vijay Makkal Iyakkam' is turning into a political party, and Vijay has reportedly registered the name in the election commission.

'All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam' is the name registered in the election commission, and reportedly Padmanabhan as party leader, SA Chandrasekhar as general secretary, and Shoba as treasurer was mentioned in the application.

Vijay is one of the biggest film stars in Tamil Nadu and has huge fan base in the state. However, it was unclear if the party has been registered under Vijay’s direct instructions. His father, director SA Chandrasekar, gave a cryptic message to the media when asked the question. “I have applied for registration of a political party in the name of ‘All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam’. It’s my initiative. This is not Vijay’s political party. I can’t comment whether he will enter electoral politics,” he told NDTV.

However, Vijay has clarified in a statement that he does not any direct or indirect connection with the party. He added that action would be taken against the party if they use his name, photo or the name of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. I inform my fans and the public that there is no relation whatsoever between the political party that my father has started and me, directly or indirectly,” the actor said in his statement.

Significantly, Vijay urged his fans not to join the political party or work for it “just because his father started it”. He added, however, that nothing that his father does politically will restrain him.

I request my fans to not join the political party that my father has started or work for it. There is no connection between that party and our ‘iyakkam’ (fan club),” he stated.

Vijay has made his opinion known in issues like jallikattu and the NEET, he hasn’t spoken about his political ideologies openly so far. But Vijay's father starting the political party on the name of Vijay's fan club suggests the actor is one step towards his political entry. Though Vijay is not associating himself with his dad's political party for now, it could change in future.
