The IPL cricket fever, which has gripped the nation and the cricketing world in an unprecedented manner, appears to be having quite an impact in the ticket sales in the theatres in Chennai where Tamil and Hindi movies are playing.
Theatre owners say that the IPL, which started on 12th of this month and is being held in various Indian cities, has been affecting the run of the films screened in the matinee, evening and night shows, as the matches are held from 04:00 p.m. in the evening to 11:00 p.m. in the night.
Taking to cricket viewing in a big way, the students and the public tend to be ignoring (for the time being, though) Tamil and Hindi films. This has resulted in theaters reporting a steep decline in ticket sales on all the above-said three shows.
Theatre owners, on condition of anonymity, have said that in some theatres, shows had to be cancelled as none of them turned out to watch the films.
