Arya says ‘Kissing on the sets is tough’

Arya is in an upbeat mood these days! He has a reason to rejoice — his Vettai, released recently with 560 prints and featuring the combo of Madhavan and Lingusamy, has been declared a hit by trade pundits. DC caught up with the actor at a multiplex where he was promoting the film.

The talking point of the film is the intense onscreen chemistry shared by Arya and Amala Paul and their innumerable smooching scenes.

Ask him about it and he gushes, "Yeah, everyone liked the romantic part of the film. A lot of people called me and said that the scenes involving me and Amala looked natural and they didn't come across as forced."

We hear that you took several takes for that lip kiss shot! "No way! More than anything else, it was so embarrassing for me to kiss a girl in front of 200 unit members! Given the close camera angles, I could not do it spontaneously."

How did Amala take it? "We knew right from the start that there were a few kissing scenes in the film. So, we were mentally prepared for it! Amala was cool and took it sportingly; after all, it was only in front of the camera."

Arya says that through Vettai, he has found a great friend – Madhavan. "We were like real brothers and gelled well on the sets. My brother Sathya's and Maddy's birthday fall on the same day — June 4. So, we have decided to host a big joint birthday bash this year."

The Avan Ivan star, who normally struggles with his dance steps, has also been appreciated for his good dances — especially in the Pappa Pappa song. "I should thank choreographers Raju Sundaram and Brindha for this — they waited patiently until I got my steps all right. But, I did practice a lot before the actual shooting."
