‘Krishnaveni Panjaalai’ ready for release

Minveli Media Works’ ‘Krishnaveni Panjaali’, directed by Dhanapal Padmanabhan, is ready for release. Director J. Mahendran released its audio CD earlier this month and it was received by former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. This is the first ever film- related event in which Dr Kalam has participated.

The period film mirrors the living conditions of mill workers in the Udumalpet region of erstwhile Coimbatore district. The narrative spans four decades from the 50s. Romance and humour pep up the life in the mill quarters. The bonding among the families and their happy outings are well captured.

Hemachandran and Nandhana have played the lead, while Rajiv Krishna, Shanmugaraja, M.S. Bhaskar, Ajayan Bala, Renuka, Thennavan, Balasingh, Poovitha and Hemalatha form the supporting cast.
Suresh Bargav has handled the camera and Kasi Viswanathan has edited the film. Director Dhanapal Padmanabhan has written the screenplay. N.R. Raghunathan has scored the music for all four songs.
Padmanabhan said a 30-day workshop had preceded the shoot. Actor Shanmugaraja being the first casting director in Tamil chose the actors and conducted the workshop..

Hemachandran said he is happy getting the lead role in a period film early in his career. His earlier films were ‘Kavithai’, ‘Puzhal’ and ‘Nanda Nandhitha. He had worked in a mill for a week before the shoot which helped him to know first-hand the living conditions of mill workers.

Director Padmanabhan’s father was a mill worker himself and ‘ the film is a sort of tribute to him’.
