Director Manivannan is known for directing hit films which has variety of stories. He has directed numerous films including Nooravadhu Naal, Jallikattu Kaalai, Vazhkkaichakkaram and Amaidhipadai. His film Nooravadhu Naal is a thriller film.

Manivannan, the famed actor-director, has announced the title of his 50th directorial venture. The film, titled as Amaidhipadai-2, is a sequel to the hit film Amaidhipadai he made with Sathyaraj in the lead role in the nineties. Manivannan’s 50th film will star his close friend and actor Sathyaraj again in the lead role.

At a time when Sathyaraj has stopped playing lead roles for want of offers, Manivannan’s courage in roping the ageing star to play the lead role is viewed with skepticism by Kollywood circles. Manivannan has even released two films in the same month in the late eighties and his films have always offered the ‘minimum guarantee’ to the distributors and theatre-owners.

Besides entertainers such as Jallikkattu, Vidinja Kalyanam, Mudhal Vasantham and Ingeyum Oru Gangai, Manivannan had also made emotional blockbusters such as Ilamaikkalangal and Gopurangal Saivathillai. His Nooravadhu Naal is considered as a pioneer of ‘thriller’ films in Tamil in the colour-film era. Known for his satirical dialogues, Manivannan is gearing up to direct his 50th film.

Manivannan is widely respected by Sri Lankan Tamils all over the world and is the ‘guru’ of today’s generation of directors such as Seeman and Sundar C. Of late, he hadn’t been keeping his health which prevented him from acting and directing films vigorously. Now that he has regained his health, he has gone ahead and launched Amaidhipadai-2.

The heroine and other artistes in the film are yet to be chosen. The film would be made in typical Manivannan style and would be touching upon contemporary issues such as the spectrum scandal and the Lankan Tamils’ predicament.
