Indian National League on Monday submitted a petiti­on to the home secretary se­e­ki­ng a ban on Vijay’s Dee­p­av­ali Tamil blockbuster Thuppa­k­ki.

Agitated over the alleged poor portrayal of Muslims in the film, Vijay’s die-hard Muslim fans have threaten­ed to dissolve fan clubs. They alleged that the movie crew did not remove the ob­j­e­ctionable scenes even aft­er agreeing to do so at the meeting held last week.

“It is a big shock and we can’t digest the fact that our icon Vijay’s film has show­ed Islam in poor light. We have been ardent fans of Vi­j­ay for over a decade from the time when his film Pud­h­iya Geet­h­­ai was released. I don’t know how Mr Vijay has acc­e­pted a role that de­picts people from a specific religion as terrorists,” Bhutto, a senior office-bearer, Vijay Parakkum Padai Fans Club of Alwarthoppu, Palakkaari, a predominant Muslim locality in Tiruchy, told DC over the phone on Monday.

Several discontented Vij­ay fans had decided to dissolve fans club and they had been in touch with several other fan clubs run by Muslims across the state.

“We have decided to dissol­ve Vijay’s fan clubs and have been discussing with of­f­ice-bearers of other fan cl­ubs’ of southern distri­c­ts,” said Umar Ali, another member adding that this was the first time they ski­p­ped watching Vijay’s movie.

Earlier in the day, membe­rs of Indian National Lea­g­ue party led by general se­c­reta­ry J. Abdul Raheem su­bmit­t­ed a representation to the home secretary at the secretariat seeking to ban the film.

Mr Raheem told re­po­r­ters that several fan cl­ubs had decided to disso­l­ve the clubs. Since he was not all­owed to meet the home secretary, Mr Rajago­p­al left his representation at his office.
