The Thalaivaa team has been denied permission to hold a fast today (Aug 17). The producer and others had gone to city police commissioner's office seeking permission, to hold the fast. The fast is against non-release of the film in Tamil Nadu and was to be led by Vijay.

A week after its worldwide release, Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Thalaivaa is yet to be released in Tamil Nadu. Several issues like a bomb threat, entertainment tax waiver issue and alleged political content derailed its release in Tamil Nadu. The movie has been mired in controversy and its release, earlier scheduled for the Eid weekend, was suspended after cinema halls received threats from some groups.

The Thalaivaa teams attempt to meet the chief minister or concerned authorities failed, they approached the police commissioner for permission to conduct a one-day token fast. They could not meet police commissioner S George and were redirected to additional commissioner (central crime branch) RS Nallasivam who accepted their petition.
