Actor Vijay Sethupathi recently tweeted support for Suriya's statement, in which the latter expressed support for his wife Jyothika's recent statement at an award function.

Jyotika highlights the plight of a government hospital in Thanjavur. She then requested people to regard schools and hospitals as highly as temples and donate money to their betterment, instead of dropping it in temple collection boxes. S.Ve.Sekhar and Gayathri Raghuraman slammed Jyothika and others have joined in trolling her for her sensible observations.

Suriya released a statement supporting his wife's speech today. In his statement, Suriya emphasized that humanity transcends religion, thereby thanking those who supported Jyothika on this issue. Taking to his Twitter account, Vijay Sethupathi welcomed Suriya's bold statement with one line- Sirappu.

Vijay Sethupathi and Jyothika had previously shared screen space in the Mani Ratnam directorial Chekka Chivandha Vaanam, a crime drama that also starred STR, Arvind Swami and Arun Vijay in pivotal roles.

It all started when Jyothika spoke about giving equal importance to the maintenance of schools and hospitals on par with that of temples.
