Endemol Shine India is a joint venture between Endemol Shine group and CA Media. Endemol is a major player in entertainment business includes reality shows, game shows, music and dance, and quiz shows.

Endemol India has produced about 30 seasons of Bigg Boss show in multiple languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bangla.

Though there were numerous criticisms due to its nature of the reality show, Ulaganakayan Kamal Haasan’s first season of Bigg Boss Tamil was a smash hit on Vijay TV, setting new records in the television industry. It became the most watched reality TV show in Tamil. According to reports, the show increased the viewership of Star Vijay by 10 percent.

Season 1

From it's day of launch, June 24 to its grand finale on September 30, the popularity of the show grew by leaps and bounds, thanks to its contestants and the controversies they courted in every single episode.

Incidents including contestants targeting Julie, tantrums from actor-choreographer Gayathri, Oviya - Aarav romance, fellow housemates not allowing Oviya to sleep, Oviya jumping into pool, Aarav's medical kiss to Oviya made it more entertaining for viewers. Oviya's popularity among viewers rose to an unexpected level and Aarav won the title.

Season 2

Following year, for Season 2, the expectations were high. This time Kamal had become a politician and the channel gave more importance in selecting contestants. They choose 'Thadi' Balaji - Nithya couple who had been in the news for family issues. To add glamour and romance young blood like Aishwarya Dutta, Yashika Anand, Mahath and Shahrik were added in the show. The housemates of the second season had the advantage of studying the previous season and entering the show well-prepared.

Danny and Mumtaz came with a clear plan. Aishwarya and Yashika Aannand made calculated moves to get close to the finish line. 'Hitler' Task, Balaji - Nithya family drama, Mahat trolling Mumtaz, Aishwarya lied to Sendrayan as part of the task are some of the highlights of the season. In the end Rithvika won the title.

Season 3

Last season, 16 contestants include Kavin, Sandy, Loslia, Cheran, Vanitha Vijayakumar, Madhumita etc. This time there was no dearth of condensate. Saravanan was expelled from the show for bragging about sexually harassing women on buses during his college days. Gang-ragged by fellow contestants, Madhumitha came out by cutting her wrist. Muguen eventually won the title.

Season 4?

All three seasons followed the same pattern, show started on the third week of June and took place over a hundred days and Kamal's promotional shoot begins just a month before that.

But what about this year? The shooting of the serials, which had been suspended for three months, resumed and shoots has now been stopped because of Lockdown. So the question is, is Bigg Boss going to happen this year?

Sources close to the production house says, "Season 4 is definitely on, we initially planned to start the promotion on third week of June, and begin the show in July, but it is not possible with current situation. Now we are planning to kick-start the show by September and the promo-shoot will be commencing by middle of August 2020, once lock down is lifted, official announcement will be made on the show. The shoot will happen per the guidance given by the state government."

Despite the channel have shortlisted the candidates for the show, Some reports say that Kamal did not want to finalize the contestants during the lockdown time.

Meantime Channel is drafting new rules for the contestants on how to stay inside the Bigg Boss house during this pandemic situation. The first condition for contestants to enter the 'Bigg Boss' house is to test negative for COVID-19.
