Aishwarya Rajesh to play leading lady in 'Mundhanai Mudichu' remake

Aishwarya Rajesh, who was last seen Vaanam Kottatum has been roped in to play the female lead in the remake of Munthanai Mudichu.
Kollyinsider had already reported that K Bhagyaraj's yesteryear 1983 blockbuster film, 'Munthanai Mudichu' is getting a remake for new generations, and Sasikumar will be playing the lead in it. Now the latest is that actress Aishwarya Rajesh will be reprising Urvashi's role as the female lead.

While filmmaker Bhagyaraj is again penning the dialogue and screenplay for the remake, it is yet to know if he is directing the remake again. The film will be produced by JSB Sathish under his JSB Film Studios banner, who produced Vikram Prabhu's 'Asura Guru'.

Sharing a picture with director Bhagyaraj and actor Sasikumar, Aishwarya Rajesh posted, "Excited and honoured to be a part of the remake of #MunthanaiMudichu, one of Tamil cinema's landmark films that's stood the test of time. Watch out for this one in 2021!" (sic)

Released on July 22, 1983, 'Munthanai Mudichu' is all about a mischievous rural girl (played by Urvashi in the original) who falls in the love with a widower teacher(Baghyaraj) and marries him with a fake complaint in the panchayat. The original version was remade in Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Back in 2012, a sequel to 'Munthanai Mudichu', titled 'Mappillai Vinayagar', was shot with 'Lollu Sabha' fame Jeeva playing the lead role of the son of the characters played by Bhagyaraj and Urvashi in the original. But the film failed to get a theatrical release.
