Director Selvaraghavan, showcased his magnum opus 'Pudhupettai' 14 years ago featuring his brother Dhanush. Released in 2006, Pudhupettai is hailed as one of the best gangster films of all time. Sonia Aggarwal and Sneha played as the female lead characters.

The filmmaker had earlier stated that the he has started working on the pre-production works of for the sequel. Recently, the director said he is now back to work and tweeting that ' one day's work really has perked me up, it's my experience'.

In last 14 years since the original movie, many things having changed for the director, with health and personal issues constantly making headlines in the media. Selva now have more responsibility when directing Dhanush, because the gangster flick reprisal could suit the current stature of his young brother.

Talks about Pudhupettai 2 have been going on for a couple of years now, but it is getting materialised only now. The sequel will bring back Dhanush's iconic character, Kokki Kumaru, who is one of the most-wanted goon in North Madras.

Pudhupettai, considered one of his most iconic characters and the sequel will see his re-emergence as Chennai’s most dreaded gangster. The sequel will be the fifth time that the brothers are working together after films such as Thulluvatho Ilamai, Kadhal Konden, Pudupettai and Mayakkam Enna.
